Fourth Class English continues the study of literary genres begun in the Fifth Class year, concentrating on longer forms, such as the epic and the novel. Vocabulary work continues to receive close attention, and students develop their research skills by writing a historical short story set in Shakespearean London. Writing tasks also include an introduction to literary analysis (covered in more detail in Third Class English). Readings typically include such texts as Gilgamesh, the Odyssey, Romeo and Juliet, A Separate Peace, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Lord of the Flies, and Their Eyes Were Watching God.
